LIVESTRONG Army Ocean County's Plan of Action

The LIVESTRONG ARMY Ocean County NJ is a group of people committed to making cancer a local and national priority. We will raise awareness in our local communities, work on projects to address cancer specific concerns, raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation and an outreach program to expand the LIVESTRONG ARMY Ocean County NJ. LIVESTRONG Army Ocean County's Plan of Action has 3 core areas that we focus on throughout the year.

1. COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS

  • Recruiting Army Members: Tents/Tables at community events, Through media outlets: newspapers, radio and TV, Online via blogsspot.com, Facebook.com, Youtube.com and Networking with family and friends.
  • Support Services: Work with or start local cancer survivor & caregiver support groups
  • Guest Speaking: Middle/High Schools, Colleges, Local Events
  • Educational Services: Work with local schools to adopt the LIVESTRONG at School Program. Deliver LIVESTRONG Notebooks to doctors and hospitals on Ocean County
2. ADVOCACY
  • Local Level: Get people to register to Vote. Learn what our local communities are doing to make cancer a priority and work with local leaders to make cancer a priority. Get to know your elected officials: Town/Boro, County, State and National. Hold or attend LIVESTRONG Day Event(s)
  • National Level: Work with Washington to - Increased Funding for Federal Cancer Survivorship Programs, Increased Access to Quality Care and Reduced Disparities in Treatment.
  • Focus on the four goals of the National Call to Action on Cancer Prevention and Survivorship: Empower Healthy Lifestyles to Prevent Cancer - Apply What We Know About Cancer Screening and Early Detection to All People - Ensure that All People Can Navigate Through the Health Care System - Provide Survivorship Care Plans and Systems of Support for All Cancer Survivors

3. FUNDRAISING

  • Writing Letter or Email Campaigns: to Family, friends, coworkers and neighbors
  • Get businesses to sponsor your efforts
  • Local Grassroots Events: Hold a Wear Yellow Day and encourage your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers to do the same and ask them to make a donation to the LAF. Try holding a Golf Tournament, Gala Dinner, Beef Steak & Comedy Show, Dinner & Silent Auction. Home BBQs: Charge a small fee ($20) and have family and friends over to a BQQ to benefit the LAF. Home parties: (i.e. Party Light, Tupperware, Tastefully Simple, etc.) with a percentage of the proceeds going to the LAF.
  • LAF Events: Participate in the LIVESTRONG Challenge series. Start a team and have businesses sponsor your participation.
